FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What should i do when lobsters die?
  • Ensure that soap, hand sanitizer, or other types of chemicals are not in contact with the tank and its water, as this would result in the death of the species.
  • Always purge lobsters before placing them in the tank.
  • Discard weak and dying lobsters from the tank.
  • Check if the water salinity is at 1.024 and the water temperature is between 45 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit / 6 to 8 degrees Celsius.
  • Check the ammonia level, refer to the instructions on the ammonia box. If the tests are abnormal, perform a complete tank drainage, replace the filter components with new ones.
  • Do not add too many lobsters to your tank at once. The bacteria level created by lobsters should increase gradually.
What is the ideal water temperature for lobsters?
The water temperature should be between 46 and 48 degrees fahrenheit / 6 and 8 degrees celsius. The thermostat is preset by the manufacturer. If you believe the thermostat is not working correctly, please contact us.
Do lobsters need to be fed?

It is not necessary to feed them as the cold water temperature causes lobsters to hibernate.

How long do lobsters live in the tank?

Under perfect conditions, they can live up to 2 months.

How do i check my salt level?

Add the hydrometer to the water in the upper tank.

  • If it floats at the green mark level, the salt level is correct.
  • If it floats at the green mark level, the salt level is correct.
  • If it floats above the green mark, remove the saltwater and replace it with freshwater in the upper tank.
How do i check my ammonia level?

Use the ammonia test provided with your lobster tank and follow the steps indicated on the instruction box.

  • If the test color turns yellow and the result is less than 0.6, the ammonia level is correct.
  • If the test color turns blue and the result is higher than 0.6, the ammonia level is too high.

When you have a high ammonia level, empty the tank completely twice or add cloram-x if you have it.

Why is the water cloudy?
  • Lobster feces can cloud the water. Therefore, it is essential to purge lobsters before placing them in the tank.
  • The ammonia level may be too high. Perform a test and follow the instructions on the ammonia test box.
Why is the water temperature too warm?
  • Check if the radiator fins are blocked by dust. If so, cleaning the fins should cool the water.
  • Check if the air inlet or outlet of the refrigeration unit is not in contact with a wall or furniture. Both the inlet and outlet should be at least one meter away from any structure to ensure optimal air circulation.
  • Check if a light is on the thermostat. If so, contact us.
Why is the water temperature too cold?

Check if the pump outlet is connected to the respective pump inlet. If so, unplug the tank immediately and contact us.

Why are bubbles coming out of the water outlet?

It may be the pump sucking in air. This could endanger the lobsters’ lives and damage the pump.

  • Close the pumps and let the tank water flow into the lower tank. Open the main filter box and add water until the water level reaches the “maximum” line.
  • Restart the pumps and readjust your salt level if necessary.

The tank filters may be saturated and need to be changed, as well as the charcoal and coral.

Why is the water level low?

Evaporation and lobster water absorption can lower the water level. We recommend checking the water level every three months.

Why is the water flow rate low?

There may be an air bubble trapped in the water outlet.

  • Unplug the pump.
  • Put a garden hose into the outlet, turn on the water, and then plug the pump back in. This should eliminate the air from the outlet.
How often should i empty my tank?

It depends on the lobster inventory you manage throughout the year. The key is to purge the lobsters upon delivery, keep the white filters clean, and perform regular maintenance as per our suggestion to maintain water cleanliness.

How long does the coral last?

You can rinse it as many times as needed and reuse it for up to 4 years. This works only if you maintain your tank properly.

How long does the charcoal last?

It can last up to a year. It cannot be rinsed and reused.

How do i fill the tank?
  1. Ensure that the pumps and the compressor are closed.
  2. Place the hose into one of the transparent tubes and start filling the tank.
  3. Stop the water when the maximum line is reached in the filter box.
  4. Plug all tank components, and the water should fill into the upper tank.
Can i move the tank when it's full of water?

It is extremely important never to move the tank when it is filled with water, as this could damage the wheels and compromise the tank’s structural integrity.

How do i empty the tank?
  1. Disconnect the pump and compressor outlet, which will drain the water to the lower tank.
  2. Attach the injection hose to one of the water outlets and connect the garden hose.
  3. Reconnect the pump and compressor to their respective sockets to initiate drainage.
  4. Once the lower tank is empty, disconnect both sockets again.
